Wolves v Manchester City Match Preview
Anytime a team scores three times away from home, it has to be considered rather impressive. Anytime a team scores three time away from home and fails to pick up a point, it has to be considered as a disaster.
Precisely the scenario that Wolves found themselves in before the international break and although Gary O’Neil’s men scored a trio of goals against Brentford, they would also go on to concede five at the GTech Community Stadium.
A woeful performance from those in defence and so bad, that even a hefty shift from Wolves’ attack could not dig them out of the trouble and such was the size of the defeat, that their goals against column is looking rather troublesome.
More often than not conceding anything more than two goals against on average is enough to send you packing out of the Premier League and considering the Molineux men are averaging exactly three per game this season, it does not bode well for the club’s prospects.
It does not bode well for the manager’s prospects either and with Gary O’Neil’s future being questioned in recent weeks, the visit of Manchester City on Sunday may end up being his toughest question of all.
Especially as City will look to return to the top of the Premier League – even for a couple of hours and the most likely way for Pep Guardiola’s men to achieve that is by picking up maximum points at Molineux.
While it was a maximum that City picked up in their last outing before the international break and although there was a slight scare when Fulham found themselves a goal to the good through Andreas Pereira, normal service was then quickly resumed.
Service that came in the shape of Mateo Kovacic’s first-half double and for all the talk surrounding Rodri’s long-term absence the utilisation of the Croatian international is hardly a drop off in terms of midfield personnel.
Of course, the only thing that City can do is drop off if they do not defend their Premier League crown once again and although they find themselves a point off the pace at present, we are nowhere near the usual application of the afterburners post-Christmas.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and even though Wolves will be working on their defensive shape, I think this will be a routine win for Manchester City and one that is secured by a three-goal winning margin at odds of 9/2.
In addition to this, I also like the look of Rayan Ait-Nouri’s ability to get forward and considering the defender has already scored two league goals this season, I am marking him down for a consolation on Sunday at odds of 11/1.
