West Indies v England Match Preview
Well, England certainly gave their travelling fans something to cheer about over the weekend with two polished performances at the start of this T20 series.
They were good with the ball and excellent with the bat in Barbados, with standout performances on Saturday and Sunday coming from Jos Buttler, Saqib Mahmood and Phil Salt.
I suggested West Indies as the series winner before a ball was bowled, and it clearly isn’t working out that way. But England still make me nervous.
I’ve shown faith in them in recent times, they’ve let me down. Having now diverted away from them, they start to string some performances together. It would not surprise me one bit if they threw in a horror performance on Thursday.
For that reason, I think the wise approach would be to look for value elsewhere rather than tip a winner for this one. After all, that West Indies series winner bet remains alive for now, even if it’s hanging by a thread.
The first bet which has caught my eye is the 23/20 on offer with William Hill - via their #YourOdds section - on England batting stars Jos Buttler and Phil Salt to hit at least one six apiece. They have each hit six sixes in the series so far; Salt in game one, Buttler in game two.
Let’s get in the (Mah)mood for more Saqib success
England new ball quick Saqib Mahmood has had an excellent series so far, claiming six wickets in two games. He got four in the opener and two in the second to help secure a 2-0 lead.
The Lancashire man is therefore value at 13/8 with bet365 to take two or more wickets in game three.
There have been some big totals posted on this ground in T20I cricket - three over 200 this year, for example. I think there’s enough power on offer across both sides to cover betway’s 2/1 on there to be over 18.5 sixes in the match and over 12.5 wickets taken. That price is available via their Pre-Built bets section.
A century to be scored in the match is worth taking on, available at 6/1 with bet365. A high-scoring game is expected, Salt scored a ton in game one, Buttler went close in game two with 83 not out and in the three previous 200 plus totals on this ground, which I mentioned a moment ago, there were scores of 98 and 92.
And to finish, we have a whopper of a price available with Paddy Power which is certainly worth a quid or two if you’re feeling frisky. They’re offering 33/1 through their Bet Builders on Buttler, Will Jacks and Nicholas Pooran to all hit a six and take a catch apiece.
