Wales v South Africa Match Preview
It has been a tortuous second spell in charge of Wales for Gatland, culminating in this record stretch of 11 consecutive defeats that they are currently on.
The heavy loss to Australia last weekend - only a year on from thrashing them in the World Cup - broke Steve Hansen's previous record of 10 successive defeats and leaves Gatland facing significant criticism over his role.
In his defence, an experienced core of players has departed to leave a threadbare pool of players to choose from but heavy defeats to Fiji and Australia in the last two weeks, as well as the wooden spoon in this year's Six Nations don't leave much room for excuses.
It is almost certain to be number 12 this weekend as reigning world champions South Africa make the trip to Cardiff on the back of a professional win over England last weekend, the question is of how much by.
Gatland has made a further four changes to his XV as he looks for a winning combination, but the experience of the two sides tells its own story with Wales' total of 334 caps dwarfed by the Springboks' 951.
To be totally honest I don't give Wales a prayer in even getting close in this game, and with South Africa naming a strong side we're just going to be looking at how many points they score, and how much they win by to get any decent value in this game.
To start with, I'm looking at a big win, so looking at the winning margins is a good place to start.
Wales lost to the Springboks by 28 points in the summer, and then by 32 points to Australia. So for South Africa to win by 26-30 points this weekend looks a decent margin, and at 6/1 with Betfred is a pretty good price. It's quite a tight one, but it represents the sort of margin I would expect.
My second tip, which is a bit more of a banker, is for South Africa to be 8-14 points ahead at the break.
I think they will run away with the game in the second half as their experience off the bench tells, so would not be surprised if the scoreline jumps up quickly in the second period so an 8-14 point lead at the break is 10/3 with BoyleSports which is a decent price, but really there is very little value in this game this weekend.
