After a dramatic US Open, the PGA Tour scurries over to Connecticut for the final signature event of the season — the Travelers Championship.

A catalogue of blunders from Rory McIlroy (three bogeys in his final four holes) saw him relinquish a two-shot lead at Pinehurst, and it was his 37th failed attempt to add to his tally of four majors, a figure he has been stuck on for 10 years.

The mini meltdown from the Ulsterman left the door ajar for Bryson DeChambeau, and the American capitalised as he held an extraordinary clutch putt on the 18th to lift his second US Open title.

Naturally, the Pinehurst disaster will have left McIlroy feeling numb and there will be significant scar tissue.

To process things, McIlroy has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship and he will now get himself ready to defend the Genesis Open, and of course, mount a challenge at The Open at Troon.

Anyway, back to this week, and there is a high-wattage field to contend with, and that includes Scottie Scheffler who struggled to tame Pinehurst.

New England native Keegan Bradley is the reigning champion, but who will enter the winner’s circle this week?

I have provided some Travelers Championship betting tips to support my customary event preview.

Xander Schauffele to come up trumps

The lure of low scoring always makes the Travelers Championship an appetising stop on the calendar for most of the pros.

Jim Furyk’s scintillating round of 58 in the final round of the Travelers in 2016, remains the lowest 18-hole score ever posted on the PGA Tour, and in 2014, Kevin Streelman reeled off seven birdies in a row to fend off K.J. Choi and Sergio Garcia.

This par-70 track plays rather short at 6,835 yards, and so this rewards those who are steady from the tee as opposed to being a bomber’s paradise.

World No.2 Xander Schauffele has been a model of consistency this term, and aside from lifting the PGA Championship, he has chalked up 11 top-10 finishes from 15 events.

Sitting second in the performance metric for SG: Total (2.295), there is no obvious chinks in its armour, well perhaps his deficiencies from playing out from the rough on the right hand side.

Schauffele, who shot an overall score of -19 to clinch the Travelers Championship in 2019, could prevail once again, and he’s available at a tempting 8/1 with Paddy Power.

Ludvig Aberg to get off to a strong start

Despite fading in the latter stages of the US Open, Ludvig Aberg still finished T12 on his debut at Pinehurst.

As far as the rankings are concerned, the Swede has moved up two spots to No.5, and he is on the right trajectory.

He certainly appears to be primed to be a Major champion, and he’s had six top-10 finishes and two runner-up places from the 13 events he has contested.

There are no cuts this week at the Travelers Championship, and I feel Aberg will go about his business efficiently.

To round off my Travelers Championship betting tips, I’m swayed by Aberg to top the leaderboard after the first round, and Parimatch has an intriguing 22/1 price for you to unlock.
