The Hundred Betting Tips: Tournament Preview
The Oval Invincibles men are aiming for back-to-back titles, while Southern Brave women are bidding to achieve the same feat. It’s time for our Hundred betting tips preview

- Oval Invincibles to win the men’s Hundred - 4/1 with BetMGM
- Northern Superchargers to win the women’s Hundred - 9/2 with BetMGM
- Oval Invincibles + Northern Superchargers double - 51/2 with BetMGM
- Sean Abbott to be Birmingham Phoenix’s top wicket-taker - 15/8 with bet365
- Phil Salt to be Manchester Original’s top-scorer - 2/1 with bet365
- Michael Pepper to be London Spirit’s top-scorer - 7/2 with bet365
- Abbott + Salt double - 13/2 with bet365
- Southern Brave v Oval Invincibles in men’s final - 16/1 with betway
I’m going to lay my cards on the table, I expect the Oval Invincibles men to defend their title, which they are favourites to do.
They look to have all bases covered; power and poise with the bat and immense quality - both seam and spin - with the ball. Importantly, they shouldn’t be affected greatly by the overlap with the start of this competition and the end of England’s Test series against the West Indies.
Only Gus Atkinson will miss the first two games. Some teams are missing quite a few.
Northern Superchargers’ squad doesn’t look too bad on paper under Andrew Flintoff’s coaching, for example. But they will be missing Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Matthew Potts and Dillon Pennington for the opening games.
The Invincibles have signed Dawid Malan and, as an overseas, Donovan Ferreira, while they have held onto Aussie bowling duo Adam Zampa and Spencer Johnson, the latter who misses the opening match.
First of all, betway have them at 7/4 to reach the final. And BetMGM also have them at 4/1 to win the title. They are two prices I would be keen on taking.
In terms of the women’s event, I expect the two sides who contested last year’s final to be there and thereabouts again, Southern Brave and Northern Superchargers.
But my money would be with the Superchargers to pip the Brave to the title and gain revenge for last year. BetMGM have them at 9/2 to triumph.
If you fancy a dabble at the double, the same firm are offering 51/2.
The Hundred Betting Tips
Let’s have a look at individual success
Australian seamer Sean Abbott is 15/8 with bet365 to be Birmingham Phoenix’s top wicket-taker in the tournament. In the first half of the Blast for Surrey, he claimed 15 wickets in eight matches, including eight in his last two late last last month.
He didn’t play last season’s Hundred but did in 2022, claiming six in five matches for Manchester, including a four-wicket haul.
During the first half of this season’s T20 Blast, whilst playing for Surrey, Abbott claimed 15 wickets in eight games, including eight in his last two appearances. He took 5-18 in a victory over Middlesex at Lord’s.
England’s opening pair in T20 cricket, Jos Buttler and Phil Salt, will battle it out for the tag of the Manchester Originals’ top run-scorer in the men’s event.
Buttler won that battle at the T20 World Cup recently - 214 to 188. But I think Salt could pip him this time. Buttler will head into that tournament having had a complete break from cricket for a few weeks, while Salt has returned to Lancashire colours for a couple of Blast games and has performed.
He is 2/1 with bet365 to be the Originals’ top tournament run-scorer, which I’d be taking.
Michael Pepper is having a superb Vitality Blast campaign with Essex, scoring 515 runs from number three in their order. He’s 7/2 to beat the likes of Daniel Bell-Drummond and Dan Lawrence to be the London Spirit’s top batter.
Looking across the other teams, there’s not a great deal else which stands out with the bat for me. There are players I think, ‘They’ve got a chance’. Then you delve a bit deeper and they could miss some games due to other commitments. America’s MLC competition overlaps with the start of the Hundred, for example.
Back to bowling success, and it surprises me a touch that left-arm quick Luke Wood is 11/2 to be Trent Rockets’ leading wicket-taker. Yes, he has Rashid Khan for company in their squad and other seamers such as Sam Cook, Jordan Thompson and John Turner. Wood took 10 wickets in the 2022 title-winning campaign and seven last year. He is likely to bowl with the new ball and at the death. At that price, I think he’s worth serious consideration.
Double wise, it’s worth having a couple of quid Abbott to be the Phoenix’s leading wicket-taker and on Salt to top score for the Originals. That’s available at 13/2 with bet365.
Be Brave and have a go at naming finalists
I like the look of inaugural champions (2021) Southern Brave to reach the final in the men’s event. There are two prices I’d be interested in here.
The first is BetMGM’s 7/4 on them to finish in the top three, while the second is betway’s 100/30 on them to achieve a place in the final.
Their bowling attack looks particularly potent, with the likes of Jofra Archer, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Akeal Hosein, Rehan Ahmed, Danny Briggs and George Garton all strong options.
They were beaten semi-finalists last year by Manchester Originals.
With that in mind, I’d be keen to have a dart at betway’s 16/1 on the Brave and the Invincibles to be the two teams who contest this year’s final.
It’s worth a reminder ahead of season number four that the top team at the end of the group stage in both events - men’s and women’s - qualifies directly for the final, and they will play the winner of second and third, who face off in a semi-final Eliminator clash. The finals are played at Lord’s on August 18.
