With less than three weeks to go until the Cheltenham Festival, there's plenty of talk around fancies, especially favourites, who are being put up as rock solid.
A quick look at the latest Arkle Chase Odds and you'll see Majborough as the red hot favourite, he's been like that since Sir Gino was withdrawn due to injury.
But while he's seen as a day one banker by some, a horse that only needs to stay on his feet to win, he's got to go against a huge stat on the Arkle Chase, that is completely against him.

As the old saying goes, stats are there to be broken, and that will be the case when Majborough lines up in the Arkle, he will have to break a stat that has stood the test of time for a while now.

Just a five year old, he's still learning, but this is not a race where five year olds do well traditionally, and that's the stat that goes against him.
Looking at the last 12 winners of the Arkle Chase, the race has been won by a six or seven year old in 11 out of the 12 races.
The only horse to avoid that, was actually an older horse, not a younger horse, and that was Edwardstone in 2022.
When specifically looking at five year olds and their record in the race, it gets even worse. To find the last five year old winner of the Arkle Chase, you have to go back to 2006, 19 years ago, when the great Voy Por Ustedes won the content under Choc Thornton.

For all this talk around the horse's age, and the stat above going firmly against it, punters are certainly not thinking twice.

At a best price of 8/13, it's short in a two mile novice chase anywhere, but especially at the Cheltenham Festival, where anything can happen. But his main rival is out, form in the book is rock solid, and now all that's left is to overcome a stat around his age.
