Sunderland v Leeds Match Preview
Friday night's clash is a mouth-watering one, with two of the Championship's top five coming face-to-face at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have probably been the surprise package of the season so far - though our EFL expert Gab Sutton did tip them for promotion pre-season - and sit top of the pile eight games in, but could easily be overtaken by Leeds depending on the result.
Despite the league standings, I think Leeds' pre-match status as favourites is just about right, even if they haven't hit their straps just yet.
Sunderland's only defeats have come since the sale of Jack Clarke, and they are clearly a weaker side without the winger, so I think the run of two losses in four games will continue and their position will suffer - I would still be surprised if they finished in the top six to be honest.
One thing that counts in their favour however is the home form, with a 100% winning record so far and no goals conceded at home this season - a pretty tough ask for Leeds.
Heading into this week, Leeds might have targeted four points from trips to Norwich and Sunderland but after being held to a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road, they might settle for another point.
The injury to Ilia Gruev leaves them without cover in midfield so that could necessitate a more pragmatic approach from Farke, but with the likes of Largie Ramazani and Willy Gnonto really hitting their straps there is plenty of attacking talent capable of winning any game.
I don't think there is anything between the two sides at this stage of the season, and it wouldn't be too hard to imagine a goalless draw, I'm going to repeat Tuesday's successful Leeds tip of a 1-1 draw at 11/2 with Betfred.
Joel Piroe has been Leeds' best man in front of goal of late and I'm expecting a bit of rotation - even if he is benched Piroe has shown he is more than capable of making an impact - so for him to score in 90 minutes and Trai Hume to pick up his fifth booking of the season is 11/1 with bet365.
