Slovakia v Ukraine Match Preview

Ukraine to fight back

There’s an argument to suggest that Ukraine were caught cold against Romania on Monday.

Serhiy Rebrov’s side conceded some goal of the tournament contenders against the 47th-ranked side in the world, but with a squad full of top talent at his disposal, will relish the chance to put things right a few days later against Slovakia.

There were no doubt some bright moments from the likes of Mykahlio Mudryk in attack and Artem Dovbyk showed signs of carrying on his form from an incredible season with Girona, despite not getting as many chances in forward areas as he would have liked.

Slovakia may have beaten Belgium 1-0 on Monday night, but to say that they outplayed Domenico Tedesco’s side would be fanciful.

If xG was anything to go by, then Belgium should have won this game pretty comfortably, but Romelu Lukaku’s two chalked-off strikes further frustrated a Belgian side that still can’t quite find the right recipe at a major tournament.

Slovakia’s three points in the bag put the onus on Ukraine on Friday and 11/10 for Ukraine to get the victory in Dusseldorf looks good. However, we’d expect Ukraine to concede, so Ukraine to win and BTTS weighs up nicely at 15/4 as the theme of goals continues at this tournament.

Dovbyk the smart option

At the time of writing we are yet to see a player get on the scoresheet more than once at this Euros – that is if you are to disregard the prolific own goal tally…

But Ukraine’s striker Artem Dovbyk could well fill his boots on Friday, under pressure to fire his side to an important three points in the most winnable (on paper) game of their group.

Dovbyk top-scored in La Liga last season with 24 goals in 36 outings for Girona, and with 11 goals in 36 apps at international level, this tournament could be made for him to make a name for himself across Europe.

Teams, including Arsenal, have been sniffing around the signature of the 26-year-old, so what better way to put yourself in the window for a big-money move than to bag a brace against Slovakia?

14/1 is the whopping price for Dovbyk to score two or more vs Slovakia.
