Rangers v Lyon Match Preview
The 2-0 win over Malmo last week ensured Rangers' European campaign got off to an ideal start, but things are about to step up a gear against Lyon on Thursday.
On paper it should be Gers' trickiest tie of the campaign in the new-look format, so let's perhaps set our expectations quite early - although the bookies suggest otherwise at an early glance.
I'm not sure whether it's the doom and gloom surrounding Ibrox since the summer window or just a habit of overrating certain European clubs based on historic achievements, but I am surprised that Rangers are generally rated as favourites heading into the game.
Lyon have a few players who would walk into the Rangers line-up - Wilfried Zaha, Alexandre Lacazette, Said Benrahma, Corentin Tolisso among them - which suggests there should be quite a lot of value to be found in this one.
Yes Gers have been in decent form with six wins out of seven and no goals conceded in any of those wins, but Lyon pose a very different threat to domestic rivals, Celtic aside, even if their own form hasn't been quite as good.
To start off with, my first Rangers betting tip is for both teams to score and the game to be a draw which comes in at 7/2 with BetVictor.
I'm pretty sure both sides would take a point at this stage of the campaign with easier matches to come, but each of them have enough about them to pose a threat in front of goal.
Chief to those threats will be Tom Lawrence and Lacazette. Former Arsenal striker Lacazette hasn't started the season well so he's due a goal soon and should be restored to the team on Thursday, so a double on them both to score comes in at 12/1 with William Hill.
