We’ve got three free Yarmouth tips for this evening’s action - all three are recommended each way.
5:30pm Yarmouth - Gangster Granny (Each-Way)
Week one of the Racing League and in the opener. I did not recommend Walter Hartright at Chepstow last time, having napped him on his penultimate start, because I thought he would be a long odds-on shot.
A facile winner on that occasion, he has been raised another 6lbs for the win, has been drawn out wide in stall nine and may struggle to give 5lb, including jockey’s allowance, to Ireland’s GANGSTER GRANNY (Each-Way), who gets the vote.
Irish skipper Kevin Blake has been telling all that he has a very strong Irish squad to pick from and Gangster Granny beat a well-bred Aidan O’Brien colt at Limerick last time – pair clear – in the manner of a progressive filly. She is not bred for this trip, but she got every yard of the distance at Limerick and, gets the each-way vote to get Ireland off to a flier.
The betting suggested that True Courage would run a shocker at Windsor last time and lo and behold, he lost his race in the stalls and never came out of last place. He is better than that, but the best of the older horses may be the consistent Ludo’s Landing although this will be his first start at the trip (12f) on turf.
7:00pm Yarmouth - Farhh To Shy (Each-Way)
There is the prospect of showers at Yarmouth and the more rain, the better for FARHH TO SHY (Each-Way) who can race from a 1lb lower mark than when dotting up in this corresponding race twelve months ago on good to soft ground when she had this evening’s favourite Yantarni nearly four lengths back in fourth. The selection is 11lbs better off this evening.
Yantarni will have found conditions too soft last year and has his optimum conditions this evening, having won his last three, including a facile Newbury win last time when backed as if defeat was out of the question. His 6lbs rise is halved by the 3lbs claimed by Sean D Bowen, and the 4/1 available on Wednesday morning for the Ian Williams-trained five-year-old was fair.
Farhh To Shy has won half of her six career starts at this evening’s course. She does go on fast ground - although any showers would help - and you must forgive a very poor run at Royal Ascot last time. 8:30pm Yarmouth - Midair (Each-Way)
Talented apprentice Sean D Bowen is fast making a name for himself and, with a record of five wins from his last 27 rides is in popular demand at the moment courtesy of his valuable 3lb claim. Bowen takes over on the well-bred Frankel colt MIDAIR (Each-Way) for trainer Harry Charlton in this Racing League Race 7 finale, and the combination must have a great chance off bottom weight.
Despite failing to get his head in front from six starts to date, the gelding has not enjoyed the best of luck, having finished runner-up on four occasions, the first of which was when second to Andrew Balding’s 104-rated Caviar Heights in a Goodwood maiden on his second outing as a juvenile.
