Peterborough v Wrexham Match Preview

Peterborough fans could have been forgiven for fearing a rebuilding season in 2024-25, after star men Ronnie Edwards, Harrison Burrows and Ephron Mason-Clark were all sold, without having been replaced by the same immediate calibre of player.

Yet, while there’s a short-term drop-off in individual quality, that hasn’t yet been shown in collective performance, with Posh starting with two wins in three, enjoying 4-1 and 2-1 away victories at Shrewsbury and Exeter respectively.

The big test of where they’re at will come against better teams, given that they also lost 2-0 at home to Huddersfield on the opening day.

The indications, though, are that they’re recruited well in defenders Sam Curtis, Oscar Wallin and Jack Sparkes, plus wide man Abraham Odoh, while youngsters James Dornelly and Emmanuel Fernandez are stepping up, plus the likes of Archie Collins and Joel Randall are lifting their games another level.

So, with Kwame Poku remaining to bring some star quality from the right, and Mallik Mothersille showing the potential to become the clinical goalscorer they missed last year, there’s some optimism that they can launch another promotion challenge.

Victory over Wrexham would certainly help with that: the Red Dragons have begun with home wins over Wycombe and Reading, and were excellent in both, but on the road, they relied on star goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to earn a point at Bolton.
