The men’s Olympic hockey event gets underway at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Saturday, with 12 teams taking part, split into two pools to begin with.
After facing each other in the pool stage, teams will progress to quarter finals, semi finals, and eventually the gold medal game, which will take place on Thursday August 8 for the men.

It’s tight at the top of the betting market, with Belgium edging it as favourites now, though the Netherlands are close in behind them as second favourites.
Australia and Germany come next, then it’s Great Britain, who have a chance, but perhaps not as strong as they’ve had in previous Olympics.
The Netherlands lead current world rankings, so it’s no surprise to see them near the top of the betting, but they didn’t make the final in Tokyo.
Favourites Belgium won that, so come here looking for back to back gold medals, they beat third favourites Australia in the finals.
It is worth pointing out the England are currently second in the world rankings, and most of the Great Britain team comes from that English team, so they could go a little better than the odds suggest and perhaps be a Team GB medal hope in France.
Men’s Hockey Format
12 teams begin the tournament, and they are split into two pools of six, with each team playing each other in this stage.
The top four qualify for quarter finals, seeded, so that the pool winners play the fourth placed teams from the opposite pool, with the other games being 2nd v 3rd.
Semi finals come next, before a bronze medal game and gold medal game to sort out the medal winners.
