The men’s basketball competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics will begin on Saturday as 12 teams take to the court looking to land a medal.
Of course, the men’s competition is dominated by Team USA, and their stacked roster of star NBA names, which has led them to be installed as strong favourites to win gold by all betting sites who have odds available.
But while they are worthy strong favourites, this won’t be a walk in the park, plenty of their opponents have NBA names themselves, who will be looking to cause a huge upset.
Here we have our men’s basketball Olympic preview, with the tournament schedule, latest betting odds and more as we edge closer to the start.
Men’s Basketball Olympic Format
12 teams will take part in the men’s basketball event at Paris 2024, and those teams are split into three groups of four.
After playing their group opponents, the top eight ranked, which are the top two from each group plus the best two third placed teams, will move onto the quarter finals.
This will be then followed by two semi finals, then a bronze medal game and a gold medal game.

As you can see from the betting, Team USA are strong favourites to win men’s gold this summer.
It’s no surprise given the team they’ve put together, young elite NBA talent mixed with older veterans, who are still some of the best in the game, but also have the advantage of been there and done it all before.
If there is to be an upset, then it’s most likely going to come from Canada, France, Serbia or Germany. The latter named caused a shock to win the 2023 World Cup final, beating Serbia to claim that.
Serbia of course have Nikola Jokic, but they’re not a one man team, with good players around him, though of course, if they are to win, it’ll be down to Jokic.
France have plenty of experience, and Canada have a roster compromising of almost all NBA players.
