Ruud van Nistelrooy will be targeting a strong start when he takes charge of Leicester for the first time on Tuesday evening in a crunch Premier League clash at home to West Ham.
Just a couple of weeks after succeeding the ill-fated Steve Cooper, the need for the Foxes to put some more distance between themselves and the bottom three can’t be understated.
Currently 16th in the table, Leicester are just a point above the relegation zone after coming off the back of a heavy 4-1 battering at the hands of Brentford.
Kevin Schade, who had gone 16 games without finding the target, netted a hat-trick to add to Leicester’s woes.
West Ham, meanwhile, were on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline at the hands of Arsenal which undid their good work away to Newcastle earlier in the week, and they are just two places above Leicester in the table.

If he didn’t know it already, Van Nistelrooy faces a tough task trying to revive a flailing Leicester.
During his brief interim spell in charge of Manchester United, the Dutchman led the Red Devils to two emphatic wins over his new club (5-2 in the EFL Cup and 3-0 in the league), but he will have been horrified by what he witnessed against Brentford.
Van Nistelrooy was in the stands to watch things unfold, but it was a limp performance from Leicester, spelling a fifth defeat in their past eight games in all competitions.
The Hammers’ defensive flaws were laid bare against Arsenal, but there were some positive moments including Emerson’s wicked free-kick and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s composed finish from close range that gave Arsenal a brief scare.
Leicester haven’t given me any reason to suggest they will turn things around anytime soon.

Having netted for the second consecutive league game, Wan-Bissaka will relish trying to lift West Ham, who have been hugely inconsistent.
