Leicester v Tottenham Match Preview

Playing the final fixture of the Premier League’s opening weekend is never ideal, the wait to get going is just that little longer than everyone else and this season it is Leicester and Tottenham who have drawn the short straw.

A meeting of two teams that still have little love for each other since the infamous 2015/16 title-winning season for the Foxes and with the King Power having to play host to championship football this time 12 months ago, it now reopens its doors to Premier League action once again.

While it does so with a different manager at the club’s helm. Enzo Maresca may have been the man responsible for leading Leicester to EFL Championship glory at the back end of last season, that glory was responsible for his eventual snaring by Chelsea.

Maresca moves on, the managerial baton is handed to Steve Cooper and with the former Nottingham Forest boss having experience on how to keep a club in the top tier of English football, that is experience is going to be crucial to any survival hopes that Leicester may have.

Hopes that could take an almighty dent if the threat of a points deduction becomes a reality. Already tipped to go down at the first time of asking without it, any removal of points may tip the club back over the edge.

As for opponents Tottenham, they were on the edge of Champions League qualification for this season but Ange Postecoglou’s first season in charge of the North London outfit would see them edged out by Aston Villa.

Two points the difference between Champions League and Europa League entry and manager Postecoglou will hope that new signing Dominic Solanke proves to be the difference in Spurs’ fortunes this time around.

A huge outlay for the man who scored 19 league goals for Bournemouth last season – a rate of one goal every other game and a rate that Spurs fans will hope propels their club back into the European elite at the end of the season.

If that solves the conundrum in attack, there are still lingering questions over Tottenham’s defensive capabilities and if anything is going to undo Big Ange’s tenure in North London, it will be the undoing of his back four on too many occasions.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and because of Tottenham’s propensity to concede, I think they will ship at least one goal but have enough to earn maximum points. Therefore, I am backing the away win and both teams to score at odds of 15/8 with bet365.

In addition to this, I am also going to offer a correct score tip based on the above. Spurs to nick this one by a single goal as Leicester’s lack of forward options also hampers them on the opening weekend. A 2-1 away win can also be found at odds of 8/1.
