After heartbreak in the Championship play-offs in May, Leeds start again in their bid for promotion back to the Premier League at home to newly-promoted Portsmouth.

Daniel Farke’s side have seen a fair bit of turnover in their squad while Portsmouth have been busy trying to strengthen despite running away with League One last season.

We’ve reviewed the best football betting offers, odds, and markets from our selection of top football betting sites to bring you free betting tips for Leeds v Portsmouth.

Leeds v Portsmouth Match Preview

After such a fine run between Christmas and Easter last season, it all fizzled out towards the end of the campaign for Leeds United as they ended up agonizingly short of an immediate return to the Premier League.

They ended the campaign on 90 points having lost three of their last four games and will consider themselves unlucky not to go up automatically, but fluffed their lines at Wembley in the play-off final against Southampton.

It means they head into this season having sold their two prized assets in home-grown hero Archie Gray and last season’s Championship player of the year in Crycensio Summerville, and as of yet have not replaced them.

Nevertheless, they are still shaping up pretty nicely ahead of the new season and will be fairly confident of another strong showing - and they are clear favourites to win the league and return to the top flight.

Jayden Bogle and Joe Rothwell are smart additions while Mateo Joseph could be set for a real breakthrough season, while unpopular pair Brendan Aaronson and Max Wober are back at the club and could add further strength.

Portsmouth on the other hand will be full of hope for the coming season, even if they know that they couldn’t have been handed a tougher start on their return to the Championship.

They ran away with League One last season, totalling 97 points from 46 matches, and that has been reflected in this season’s relegation odds of 6/1 in some places - generally placing them as eighth favourites to go down.

They will take that every day and will have an eye on what Ipswich achieved last season and back-to-back promotions if they can retain any of the momentum they built up last season.

They have made some smart acquisitions with the likes of Andre Dozzell, Matt Ritchie, Jordan Archer and Josh Murphy adding some good experience to their squad.

I think it will be a tough return however, and while they can make it hard work for Leeds on Saturday I think it will be a comfortable win for the hosts, who I think will build on an impressive pre-season while keeping a clean sheet at the back. A Leeds win to nil comes in at 11/8 with bet365 as my first tip.

Leeds fans are really excited about the progress of Joseph, who looks set to be let loose from the start on Saturday after being restricted to bench appearances last season.

He has been on fire in pre-season and should get the nod, so for him to score two or more against Portsmouth is 8/1 with Paddy Power.
