League Two Season Preview - Latest Odds & Predictions 2024/25

A week from now, the League Two season will kick off, and it looks wide open. We’ve got a favourite that are actually new in the league, after winning the National League last season, in Chesterfield, looking to emulate Wrexham, who landed back to back promotions from this league last season.

Below we have the latest odds for promotion, relegation and who will be crowned the winner, while we’ve also got a Betfred sign up offer that gives new players £50 in free bets when the sign up and make a £10 qualifying bet.

I think it’s going to be tight at the top of League Two, and a number of sides could go down, it’s all setting up for a fascinating season, and the openness of it has been replicated in the odds from the best betting sites, where there appears to be plenty of value available.

League Two Season Preview 2024/25

The favourites to win League Two this season are priced up at 6/1, while the favourite for relegation is 5/2, that tells you all you need to know about the competitive nature of League Two this season, and especially at the top, I think many will fancy their chances.

Chesterfield, runaway winners of the National League, are favourites for back to back promotions, and while there’s plenty of opposition, the fact they’re straight in as favourites is probably an indication that we lack a genuine top side this season.

Down from League One, we’ve sides with ambitions to bounce back at the first attempt, such as Carlisle and Port Vale.

Before giving my predictions for the season, here is a look at the latest betting odds for League Two’s big battles.

Beginning with the winner odds, where it’s 6/1 the field, four sides are single figures, and there’s plenty of value if you like someone.

MK Dons and Doncaster are both single figures after missing out in the playoffs last season, alongside Gillingham who just missed out on them.

Port Vale and Carlisle are two of four sides down from League One, and definitely the two most likely to bounce back at the first time of asking.

Lastly, Notts County are worth a mention, much smaller hopes than they had on their backs last season, but with a new manager, new identity and plenty of new signings, they have the squad to be up there.

Plenty of teams will fancy their chances of promotion from League Two this season, and the odds above show that, 10 teams all 4/1 or less to go up.

Looking a little further down, below the teams already mentioned in the title winner race, Bradford are one of the biggest sides in League Two, but continue to struggle to get out of the fourth tier.

Elsewhere, Salford and Tranmere have shown quality on their day, and probably deserve the tag of lively outsiders.

Rest7/1+

Down at the bottom, there’s some teams who will feel they’re in danger this season, and don’t forget, the two going down will lose their league status, dropping into non league football.

Morecambe have a host of off field problems, they’re favourites but Bromley, who won promotion last season, and Harrogate, who have slowly been getting worse season on season, are just behind them.

Accrington and Newport also have questions hanging over them this season, and when you’re sucked in, it’s tough to get out.

Carlisle Quality to Shine in League Two

Starting at the top of the league, and I really like the chances of Carlisle to get back up into League One at the first attempt.

Yes, they’re likely feeling a little hangover after that, but the side they had in the second half of last season was much better, and I think they’d have stayed up, had they had that squad from the beginning.

They’ve made some nice additions, the best could be Charlie Wyke, back for another spell and I am sure he will score goals in League Two.

Luke Armstrong has proven himself at this level, I can see that combo giving Carlisle more than enough goals.

A good keeper in Harry Lewis, strong defensive group and good, battling qualities in midfield, there’s a lot to like about Carlisle across the park, and I think they’ll go very well this season.

Harrogate to Finally Return to Non League

Harrogate have been up in League Two for a few years now, but have been in constant decline really, gradually getting worse and worse, and I think that continues again this season.

The issue they have this season though, is that any worse and I think it spells trouble in the relegation battle.

Incomings have been gambles, there’s a big squad, but a lot of squad players and little quality, which I think is going to hurt them.

The togetherness and work ethic will get them so far, but not far enough, and ultimately, I think the missing quality will tell.

At 3/1, Harrogate are a fair price to be relegated to the National League this season.
