Everton have been given a further two-point deduction for a breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules, it has been reported.
Everton’s latest deduction drops them down a place to 16th in the Premier League standings, two points above the relegation zone. The Toffees are currently 5/1 with bet365 to be relegated this season.
Everton handed fresh Premier League points deduction
The penalty is Everton’s second of the campaign and relates to the three-year accounting period ending in the 2022-23 season.
Everton were initially hit with a 10-point penalty in November for a PSR breach relating to the three-year period ending in the 2021-22 season.
That was reduced to six in February and gave Sean Dyche’s side some much-needed breathing room in the relegation scrap. But this new deduction is bad news for Everton’s hopes of avoiding the drop in 2023-24.
Luton Town are now only two points away from Everton, with the pair’s meeting on May 3 likely to prove huge in deciding who spends next term in the Championship.
