One month after the glamour of Royal Ascot, this weekend once agains sees the Berkshire racecourse in the spotlight with the prestigious King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes taking place on Saturday afternoon.
A Group 1 contest run over 1 mile and 4 furlongs, this year’s race is shaping up to a cracker with the Aidan O’Brien-trained Auguste Rodin the hot favourite to secure his seventh Group 1 victory.
However, he faces a tough test in the form of the globetrotting Charlie Appleby-trained Rebel’s Romance, himself a five-time Group 1 winner.
Our top tipping duo of Alan Kelly and Charlie McCann both have a free tip for Saturday’s King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Check them out below, along with a generous new customer offer from Tote, one of the top horse racing betting sites, where you can receive £50 in bonuses when you stake just £10.

3:40pm Ascot - Auguste Rodin
A fascinating renewal of the midsummer Group 1 contest, part of the British Champions Series and with prize money totalling £1.25 million. The big question is, which AUGUSTE RODIN will turn up, the one who was beaten 22 lengths in last year’s Qipco 2000 Guineas and 127 lengths in this race 12 months ago, or the one who recorded victories in the English and Irish Derby’s, Irish Champion Stakes, Breeders’ Cup Turf and last month’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot?
On his day, the Deep Impact colt is clearly capable of putting today’s talented, but inferior rivals to the sword. Trainer Aiden O’Brien rarely comes up short when preparing a horse for a race of this nature, and with the aid of stablemate’s Hans Anderson (likely pacemaker) and Luxembourg, I expect O’Brien to record his fifth win in the race and jockey Ryan Moore, his third.
The race for second place may prove even more competitive, with the 22/1 (Each-Way) available about William Haggas’s Dubai Honour a value alternative for those who would rather oppose the Ballydoyle favourite.
3:40pm Ascot - Rebel’s Romance (Each-Way) (Nap)
Auguste Rodin disappointed in the corresponding race twelve months ago but bounced back from a dismal run in Meydan back in the spring to land the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes over ten furlongs here last month.
Last year’s Derby winner finished twenty-two lengths behind REBEL’S ROMANCE (Each-Way) (Nap) in Meydan and Godolphin’s globetrotting six-year-old gets the vote. The gelding has won thirteen of his nineteen career starts, including six at Group 1 level, although he has not run on turf in Britain since Glorious Goodwood 2022.
I expect him to be ridden forward not too far away from the likely pace-making Hans Andersen and hope to see Will Buick go for home at the top of the straight although he will likely give Ryan Moore a target to aim at. Despite the paucity of three-year-olds in the field, this is a good, if not vintage, renewal of the King George.
The long-term weather forecast must suggest a dry Glorious Goodwood as Bluestocking is a better filly with a bit of cut in the ground. However, her York win in the Group 2 Middleton (10f) back in the spring highlights her ability to cope with a sound surface.
