Jaguars v Patriots Over 41.5 Points
It’s Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season, and both Jacksonville and New England are facing challenging situations. The Patriots have endured five consecutive losses since their surprise Week 1 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, while the Jaguars claimed their only win of the season in Week 5 with a narrow 37-34 triumph over the Indianapolis Colts.
Jacksonville’s woes continued in Week 6 with a 35-16 defeat against the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Jaguars’ defence has been poor, ranking 31st in points allowed (29.7 per game) and last in the league for passing yards allowed (276.7 per game).
The Jags have conceded 34 or more points in three of their last four games, with each of those matchups featuring at least 44 total points. Similarly, three of the Patriots’ last five games have exceeded 41 points. New England now ranks 21st in the NFL for points allowed (23.8 per game), while conceding 228.5 passing yards (24th) and 130.3 rushing yards (19th).
With both teams struggling defensively, I anticipate a high-scoring game. Therefore, my first Jaguars v Patriots tip is backing Over 41.5 Points.
Drake Maye Over 199.5 Passing Yards
Rookie quarterback Drake Maye made his NFL debut last week in the Patriots' 41-21 home defeat to the Houston Texans. Maye threw for 243 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions.
It was a tough outing for the No. 3 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, but the upcoming NFL London fixture offers a more favourable opportunity. As mentioned earlier, the Jaguars’ passing defence has been poor this season.
With running back Rhamondre Stevenson missing practice all week due to a foot injury that kept him out against the Texans, the Patriots will likely lean heavily on Maye’s arm. I expect the talented rookie to rise to the occasion in this promising matchup.
Drake Maye Over 0.5 Passing Touchdowns
The Jaguars have conceded a worrying 14 passing touchdowns so far, the most in the NFL this season. After throwing three touchdowns against the Texans, Drake Maye looks set to throw at least one more against Jacksonville’s struggling defence.
The Jaguars rank 31st in the league for blitzes per dropback (17.3%) and 23rd for quarterback pressures (18.5%). Their lacklustre pass rush offers Maye a prime opportunity to shine in London this Sunday.
