India v England Preview
Aside from the financial element, which is clearly king when it comes to the powers that be, it doesn’t make a lot of sense that a month out from a 50-over global tournament we have a tour which consists of only three 50-over matches but five T20s.
But here we are, and there is some intriguing cricket ahead nonetheless.
England victories in India have been few and far between in recent years, but they have a great chance here when you look at the make-up of the two squads.
The visitors are much more experienced than their hosts, who have rested some big guns such as Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jasprit Bumrah is also recovering from injury ahead of that aforementioned Champions Trophy.
Suryakumar Yadav will captain an India side with plenty of talent - make no mistake about that - but I think Jos Buttler and co can overcome them in a keenly contested series. I’m going to side with England at 13/10 to win with bet365.
With the amount of cricket England players play in India, gone are the days when conditions are alien. So they should be able to hit the ground running.
I will go for two further series selections with bet365, a top run-scorer across the five matches for the respective sides. And they are both openers who can keep wicket.
Phil Salt is 3/1 to lead the way for England. He scored 162 runs in four innings in the November series win in the West Indies and was the leading run-scorer in that series. He hit an unbeaten 71 in the ILT20 competition in Abu Dhabi 10 days ago, so the form is there.
I also like Sanju Samson to be India’s top run-scorer, available at 10/3. He scored two hundreds in four innings in the November series win in South Africa and has been in respectable domestic form back at home in India since then.
High-scoring opener expected to start year with a bang
This venue produced two 260 plus totals in last year’s IPL, and there’s more than enough batting talent on show across the two sides to expect fireworks.
And when you look at India’s most recent T20 assignment, in South Africa back in November, they scored four hundreds in as many matches. Phil Salt also scored one for England in the West Indies, also in November.
I’d be interested in bet365’s 6/1 on a century to be scored in this Kolkata opener.
And to finish, another 6/1 shot is enticing from William Hill - via their #YourOdds selections. That’s for England to win, for Sanju Samson to score over 22 runs in the match and for Salt to score over 21 runs.
