The F1 season returns to Silverstone this week, with all eyes on the developing rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris following events in Austria.

The two drivers, who occupy first and second place in the Drivers Standings, collided in the closing stages in Austria at the weekend with Verstappen handed a 10-second penalty for instigating the incident and Norris being forced into retirement.

It was Mercedes and George Russell who ended up claiming the win, and we’ve had a look at how things might shape up ahead of Silverstone with some British Grand Prix betting tips as well as a collection of the best betting offers and free bets on the market.

Max Verstappen has been the dominant force in the F1 world for some time now, but there have been some signs of late that the days of turning up to watch him win might just be coming to an end.

That’s not to say he isn’t the outright favourite and will most likely go on to win the Drivers Championship, but we have seen in recent weeks that the chasing pack is slowly closing the gap on the Belgian and Lando Norris has been at the forefront of that.

Norris was about to overtake Verstappen in Austria when the two collided as the latter moved over into him, and he also posted the fastest lap and claimed pole position the week before in Spain. It wasn’t enough to stop Verstappen from winning, but he is clearly emerging as a strong rival.

The pattern so far this season has been for Verstappen to turn it on on race day despite not really showing in qualifying, and I wouldn’t be that surprised to see something similar happen again.

It was at Silverstone last season when McLaren showed real signs of closing the gap with both Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri finishing in the top four and qualifying in the top three. Norris has now racked up three second-place finishes since his maiden race win in Miami and is deservedly in second place in the standings.

I think we’re going to see Norris go one better on his home circuit, which is why I am backing him to claim the double of fastest lap and race win on Sunday, which is priced at 9/1 with bet365. He has shown he has the pace and can challenge Verstappen, and this would be another huge step forward.

I also like the look of his teammate Piastri, who has finishes of 4, 2, 5, 7 and 2 in his last five races and has found himself unfortunate on a number of occasions not to do better. He we be a good bet for a top si finish for sure, but I’m tipping him to make it a big day for McLaren with a third-place finish, joining Norris on the podium.

You can finish odds of 3/1 for Piastri to finish in third with bet365.
