Ferencvaros v Tottenham Match Preview
For as bad as Manchester United were on Sunday, that should not detract from just how good Tottenham were at Old Trafford. They say they can only beat what is in front of you and that is precisely what Spurs managed to do just a few days ago.
While the same can be said for each of the three previous opponents to United and although there have been accusations that this current Spurs crop are nothing more than flat track bullies, four wins from four is not a record that should be sniffed at.
Wins in not just the Premier League but the League Cup and the Europa League as well and with the common denominator in all of this being goals from Brennan Johnson, the Welsh international is now seemingly winning over the fanbase that have scathed him in the past.
Confidence was on show from the former Nottingham Forest man as he scored the opening goal at the Theatre of Dreams, and he did the same when Ange Postecoglou’s men got the better of Qarabag last week.
An evening that saw Spurs get off the Europa League mark with a 3-0 win in North London and the incentive for the club will be to try to earn a top-eight finish as quickly as possible - if they can build on last Wednesday’s performance, it should not be all that difficult.
A performance that although comfortable in terms of result was far from perfect and with Radu Dragasin being sent off early on, the Romanian defender now finds himself suspended for Spurs’ trip to Hungary.
A trip that sees them go up against Ferencvaros and with them already suffering a 2-1 defeat to Anderlecht on Matchday 1, Pascal Jensen’s men have a far greater task to overcome on Thursday night.
That clash in Belgium saw the hosts go two clear in the second half, goals from Yari Verschaeren and Kasper Dolberg giving Anderlecht the necessary daylight before Adama Traore – not of the Fulham parish, earned a consolation for the visitors.
That result means Ferencvaros sit outside the top 24 places in the Europa League league phase and although there are still plenty of opportunities to earn the necessary points for a play-off tie, Thursday may not be one of those opportunities.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with Tottenham being clear favourites to win this game, the only value seems to be in a draw at half time. Therefore, a stalemate on 45 minutes and an away win on 90 is priced at 7/2 with SpreadEx.
In addition to this, I think Tottenham may have to simply settle for the single goal in terms of success. Not that there will be all too many complaints and at odds of 17/2 with William Hill for the 1-0 away win, I will not be complaining either.
