FCSB v Manchester United Match Preview
The Champions League league phase concluding on Wednesday, the Europa League’s equivalent doing so the following evening and with the same race for the top eight taking place in both competitions, Manchester United already have one foot in the knockout stage.
A foot that increased from a couple of toes after Bruno Fernandes’ last-minute winner in last Thursday’s battle of Britain with Rangers and although it looked like the Glasgow-based outfit would go back over the border with a point, United’s captain had other ideas in mind.
Victory over United’s Scottish counterparts means that Ruben Amorim’s men are still unbeaten in this season’s edition of the Europa League – a record that stands at seven played, four wins and three draws.
A record that although far from spectacular has at least been solid enough to put the Red Devils in the driving seat before Thursday night’s visit to Romanian outfit FCSB and just to make things interesting, the hosts are also in possession of a top eight invite before Matchday 8 begins.
While Elias Charalambous’ men are currently in possession of the last of those eight invites and although they made life rather difficult against Qarabag last week, they would eventually grind out a 3-2 win in Azerbaijan.
Victory that gives them a single point margin of error over Galatasaray in ninth but with everyone from the Turkish giants to Union St.Gilloise in 15th all within range of finishing in the golden section of the table, a point may not be enough at The National Arena.
Then again, the same luxury may not be afforded to Rubin Amorim’s side either and even though they start this fixture sitting fourth in the standings, even Olympiacos in 12th will be aiming to swallow them up on the final evening of action.
As for domestic action, United once again were in the typeset of solid rather than spectacular and although their trip to Fulham was rather low in terms of entertainment, they still managed to leave West London with maximum points.
Once again, Lisandro Martinez’s effort was nothing short of maximum in defence and once again, the Argentine was on hand to score a vicious strike – even if unlike his recent effort against Liverpool, this one needed a slice of luck.
But now it is time for the first of my two tips, and I do not think United will need any luck in Romania’s capital and with that in mind, I am backing the away win and under 2.5 total goals at odds of 3/1 with betway.
In addition to this, I think corners are going to be at a premium. The hosts average just 1.77 per game in this competition and even if the visitors pick up the slack, I believe a maximum of five at odds of 9/1 is decent value with bet365.
