England’s Road to the Euro 2024 Final - Who Comes Next?

England are through to the last 16 round of Euro 2024, and did so as group winners.
But fans will tell you that doesn’t really paint the full picture. It’s been slow, laboured, lacking ideas, and lacking any constant goal threat so far. Somehow, things have fell nicely, and England find themselves of the “easier” side of the draw heading into the knockout phase, make them tournament favourites still with Euro 2024 betting sites.
Their path has fallen nicely, but can they take advantage? We run down England’s road to the Euro 2024 final here, showing who could be standing in their way.
England Road to Euro 2024 Final
They may have stumbled over the line last night, but England are the winners of Group C. Seen as being a lucrative prize at the start of the tournament, that’s increased dramatically with France failing to win their group, despite being tournament favourites with betting sites before playing yesterday.
The route won’t be easy, we are talking about a major championship, but it’s certainly a lot easier than being on the other side of the draw, thanks to France shifting across from where they were expected to be.
Last 16 Round
England will play their last 16 game on Sunday evening, with a 5pm kick off, this is guaranteed and what they will be preparing for.
The waters are cloudy right now, around who England will play. They will play a third placed finisher from either group D or E, but that could still be one of five teams.
The Netherlands finished third in Group D, so it could be them. But in Group E, all four teams could still finish third, including Belgium. Despite this focusing on groups D and E, it’s actually the results from Group F that will decide England’s fate.
The most likely opponent is the Netherlands, and England will play them, unless one of two things happen in Group F. This is that the Czech Republic beat Turkey, or Georgia beat Portugal. If either of those two happen, then England will face whoever finishes third in Group E, due to how the standings will finish in the third placed table.
Quarter Finals
Despite being further down the line, it’s actually much easier to work out who England would play in the quarter finals, because the other last 16 game from their bracket is already confirmed.
On Saturday at 5pm, Switzerland will play Italy in the last 16 round, and the winner of that game will play the winner of England’s last 16 game, setting up a potential Euro 2020 final rematch, if England and Italy make it through.
Semi Finals
Of course, we are predicting a lot of results to get to this stage, but the key point to make here is that this is where England would have potentially played France, had they won their group, which is now something they’ll avoid.
On this side of the draw will be the Austria, who won Group D ahead of France, the Group E winner and Group F runner up which we will find out tonight, and then one team from Netherlands, Croatia, Hungary and Slovenia, which is all dependant on how the rankings finish for third placed teams.
Group E sees all teams on three points right now, with Belgium the best of those on paper, while the Group F runner up would most likely be Turkey, unless we have a surprise result tonight.
Final
There’s no easy final, and with how the draw has unfolded, that’s certainly not going to be the case this year. France, Germany, Spain and Portugal all sit on the other side of the draw, England can only meet one of them in the final, and the battle should be fun to watch.
