EFL Cup Acca

Sheffield United to win and BTTS

Probably the pick of Tuesday night’s games sees Wrexham travel to Sheffield to take on the Blades who got their return to the Championship off to a winning start, seeing an end to Ryan Lowe’s reign at Preston on Friday night. These two sides have history following a spicy FA Cup replay a couple of seasons ago, so it should be a good watch.

One of the reasons for that is Wrexham’s penchant for high-scoring classics (all of their four games across pre-season and the start of the campaign have seen both teams score). Their League One campaign got off to a good start with a 3-2 win at home to Wrexham, and though I think they will lose at Bramall Lane I think it could be a good watch with a few goals in it.

Stockport v Blackburn - BTTS

While there was a lot of focus on Wrexham’s promotion push in League Two last season, it was Stockport who were the best side in the division as they stormed to the title. They should be a side to look out for in League One this season and got off to a winning start, and I think there is a very real chance of an upset in this one.

Blackburn have been tipped for relegation from the Championship all summer, and a winning start to the season shouldn’t change too many opinions. I think both teams will get on the scoresheet in this one, and if I were to stick my neck out, I’d plump for a Stockport win.

Derby to win

Derby were the side to come out on the wrong side against Blackburn, and it won’t have filled too many with confidence to see them concede four goals to another side who could potentially struggle. However a home tie to Chesterfield is probably the kind of game they would have wanted on the back of it.

That’s not to be disrespectful to the League Two side, but having just been promoted from the National League and facing a trip to another side who was promoted last season, it should be a tough evening for them.

Portsmouth to win

Portsmouth will be an interesting side to watch out for this season, and they have already pulled off one impressive result with a 3-3 draw away at Championship favourites Leeds on the opening day of the season.

Having coasted to League One last season, they could carry that momentum into this campaign and clearly they have plenty of goals in their squad. Millwall on the other hand were pretty ordinary for the most part last season and an opening day defeat at home to Watford should have the alarm bells ringing. I’m backing Portsmouth to keep the good times going.
