Cognizant Classic 3-Ball Betting Tips

There will be a distinct Spring feeling when the golfers convene for the Cognizant Classic at PGA National on Thursday.
Previously known as the Honda Classic, the Cognizant Classic kickstarts the Florida swing of the PGA Tour, and it should make for fascinating viewing.
The stakes will be high as some players will target a spot at next week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational via the Aon Next 10 and Aon Swing 5.
Last weekend, Brian Campbell catapulted himself into the limelight with a maiden win at the Mexico Open, coming through in a play-off against unheralded South African Aldrich Potgieter.
At this stage, it’s easy to look too far ahead in the calendar with illustrious events such as the Players Championship and the Masters looming large.
Earlier this week, I offered insights into the golf betting tips outrights markets.
This time, I’ve handpicked some 3-ball betting tips with the first round looming so let’s get stuck in, plus our best golf betting offers.
Cognizant Classic 3-Ball Betting Tips - Round One
We have had a look at the odds from our top online bookmakers to provide the best available on the market.
Sepp Straka to beat Billy Horschel & Cameron Young
Having already snaffled one win this season, Sepp Straka has enjoyed an inexorable rise over the past 12 months.
Ok, the Austrian may have missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational, but he’s cashed in elsewhere, including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (T7), and at the WM Phoenix Open (15th).
Straka is looking pretty solid from tee to green at the moment, and he has good course history at PGA National, averaging four-under-par from six appearances.
Billy Horschel may be the fourth-highest-ranked player in the field (20), but he’s missed the cut in half of his events played.
Cameron Young, meanwhile, has fared relatively well at PGA National, finishing 16th and fourth respectively on his two visits. In those eight rounds, he carded two scores of 65 and completed the final day with a 66 last year.
He could well shoot low in the opening round this week, but I’m going to give Straka the edge, and he’s my pick in the first of the 3-ball betting tips.
Russell Henley to beat Rickie Fowler & Jordan Spieth
This pan-American group has a few interesting angles, not least that it contains a couple of past champions.
Let’s start with the 2014 winner Russell Henley. Coming in as the world’s top-ranked player in the field (17), Henley has posted some decent finishes this term, including T5 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
His driving stats might be a concern given there is a premium placed on accuracy from the tee, and there are plenty of water hazards dotted around the track.
Rickie Fowler, meanwhile, who prevailed at PGA National in 2017, has been on the periphery of things, and he is still searching for his first top-10 finish of the term.
Whereas Jordan Spieth, who missed the cut at the Genesis Invitational, is working his way back into form after coming back from wrist surgery. He will make his debut at PGA National, so he’s a bit of an unknown entity in that respect.
For the second of my 3-ball betting tips, I’m leaning towards Henley to take the spoils.
Shane Lowry to beat Gary Woodland & Min Woo Lee
A man with pedigree at PGA National, Shane Lowry has scooped three top-five finishes on his past three trips.
There have been signs over the past few months things are starting to click for him, and he was runner-up at Pebble Beach.
Gary Woodland had a free weekend last weekend after missing the cut at the Genesis Invitational. More worryingly for him, his putter has been stone cold this term, ranking 117th for SG: Putting which doesn’t augur well on a course with exceptionally fast greens.
Min Woo-Lee, meanwhile, has got into a bad habit of slow starts, shooting opening rounds of 71 and 70 in his past two tournaments.
PGA National has links-like qualities, and Lowry could be in his element. He’s carrying favour in the outrights, and he’s my tip here.
