City Of Troy Horse Profile: The Aidan O’Brien Superstar

Arguably already the horse of the year for the 2024 flat season, City Of Troy could go on to be a great if he’s able to win in America.
One blip so far, in the Guineas, both other than that, the City Of Troy horse profile looks pretty perfect.
City Of Troy Horse Profile & Performance
Seven career starts so far, and six wins, City Of Troy will already go down as the best flat horse of this classic generation, a standout performer when compared over a number of years, and potentially a great, if his trip to America is successful.
Likely to be his last ever race, the Breeders Cup could turn this horse into a great, if he wins on the dirt.
But will he ever be spoken about in the same breath as Frankel? Sadly, his disappointing run at Newmarket in the 2000 Guineas may overshadow everything else he’s done.
9th out of 11 that day, his only defeat, may be what tarnishes his legacy.
But elsewhere, perfection. Favourite for every run in his career, used by many when placing free bets on horse racing, he’s won six, four of those at Group 1 level, including the Epsom Derby.
City Of Troy Latest News
Rather than another run before America, Aidan O’Brien has decided to send his star horse City Of Troy for a racecourse gallop at Southwell racecourse on Friday, September 20.
A similar challenge in terms of track layout, the fact there’s American style starting stalls, and the all weather surface, all make this a great place to go for a workout.
The surface is different, but a good stepping stone, while City Of Troy is expected to be pushed hard, running over one mile against some of the quickest horses that O’Brien has in his care.
The public are allowed in to watch, and I’m sure horse racing betting sites will also be watching, and cutting the odds on offer for success in America, if things go well.
City Of Troy: Next Race
Entered in both the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and Champions Stakes in Europe, but the plan for City Of Troy is to head over to America next, with the Breeders Cup Classic lined up.
This will be a switch to racing on the dirt, and the race will be on November 2, at Del Mar racecourse, but despite the switch, he’s been made favourite for the race by UK betting sites.
Despite the top quality stars O’Brien has had through the gates, it’s a race that has so far eluded him, and he’s been trying for 25 years, which shows the kind of task in front of him here.
When we get to the meeting in November, our resident horse racing tipsters Charlie McCann and Alan Kelly will be bringing their best bets for the card.
City Of Troy Horse Pedigree
City Of Troy is sired by Justify, an American bred horse, who went unbeaten in six starts, all at three, during his short career.
Despite being a short career, he would win the US Triple Crown in his final three starts, and the only blemish on a perfect race career was a disqualification for a race he won.
His dam is Together Forever, a horse trained by Aidan O’Brien when she was racing. Winner of three starts from nine runs, including once at Group 1 level in the FIllies Mile at Newmarket.
She was sired by Galileo, seen as arguably the best racehorse in the breeding barn, and with City Of Troy now in his family, that reputation will only grow further.
Who Owns City Of Troy?
City Of Troy is owned by the Coolmore group, which consists of Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.
For decades, they’ve not only been owners in racing, but have been one of the most successful.
The Coolmore operation, coupling both the breeding side of racing plus runners on the track, is one of the biggest in the world.
Who Trains City Of Troy?
City Of Troy is trained by Aidan O’Brien, an Irish based trainer who is regarded as one of the best trainers to ever grace the sport.
From the moment City Of Troy hit the track as a two year old, O’Brien regarded him as one of the best he’s ever trained, high praise when you look back at the stars he’s had over the years.
Trained at the O’Brien base in County Tipperary, City Of Troy has the benefits of some of the highest quality racing facilities anywhere in the world, with no expense spared.
