Cardiff Manager Odds: Steven Schumacher in the driving seat

Cardiff have been looking for a successor to Erol Bulut for two weeks now and look set to make an appointment during the international break, so here are the latest Cardiff manager odds.
Bulut was sacked after the 2-0 defeat to Leeds left them bottom of the Championship with just a single goal scored, prompting a search for a replacement with some more unfamiliar names thrown into the conversation.

Meet the Candidates
We have had a closer look at each of the candidates high up in the odds market.
Steven Schumacher
Schumacher has been out of work since he was sacked by Stoke five games into the season, having taken over last December.
The job Schumacher did at Plymouth prior to taking the Stoke job was considered to be a good one, taking them from League One and keeping them competitive in the Championship and Cardiff find themselves in a not dissimilar position - though a 1-0 win over Millwall on Tuesday showed some encouragement.
Schumacher is the runaway leader for the role and one of the few in the running who has Championship experience. Given that he is also out of work and has experience in League One as well, he appears a very solid bet for the job, and the obvious candidate so his price is decent value.
Freyr Alexandersson
Icelandic manager Alexandersson has made big strides in his managerial career, having previously been involved with the national team as a number two before eventually taking up his first lead role in 2021.
He has had three jobs - with the national women's side, Lyngby and Kortrijk - saving the latter from relegation in the Belgian upper tier last season, and has previously stated his desire to work in British football.
However despite reports that he had flown into Wales for talks, Alexandersson himself has distanced his name from the job and said he will not be taking the Cardiff role, so expect his price to keep on drifting.
Omer Riza
Riza is the interim manager at Cardiff, having been appointed in the wake of Bulut's departure.
Most of Riza's work in the past has been done with youth teams - save a spell at Leyton Orient in 2017 - and he has been working closely with the England age group teams and at Watford in recent years.
However he has made it clear that he fancies the role at Cardiff, and the win over Millwall in his second game in charge will do him no harm at all.
It would be no surprise to see his odds shorten over the next few days after that result and another positive one at the weekend could be the deciding factor.
Mark Hughes
Hughes is a name that needs no real introduction, having been a great player over the years with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona and then going on to forge a successful managerial career.
Granted, his sides have not quite been the same since his days at Blackburn, Manchester City and Fulham when he was genuinely regarded as one of the best managers in the Premier League, but it has been a downward curve since then.
He did a respectable job at Stoke and then Southampton, but then a surprise move to Bradford didn't go to plan and he was sacked after 18 months in charge.
After that it would be a surprise to see him jump up two leagues, but there is a fair argument to say he would be better suited to managing a team in a higher division so it could be quite a smart appointment if it happened, and a chance for Hughes to re-establish himself as a top-end manager.
I wouldn't expect this one to go anywhere, and Hughes is likely at such short odds because of his history with Wales.
Rest
James Rowberry is the best of the rest at 8/1 but has only recently been appointed as number two to Craig Bellamy with the national team, having held a similar role with the women's side.
He has very limited experience, but in truth the rest of the candidates are rather underwhelming with the likes of Rob Page, Alex Neil, Neil Warnock and Aaron Ramsey very long shots.
Nathan Jones comes in at 10/1 however, which could be something that interests a few punters though his work at Charlton has hardly put him at the front of the queue for further opportunities.
