Arsenal will target a strong start to 2025 when they travel across the Capital to face Brentford on New Year’s Day in the Premier League.
The Gunners eked out a 1-0 win at home to Ipswich last Friday, and at the time of writing, they are second in the table.
By the time they kick off, they could be nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool, but Mikel Arteta knows all too well the title race will have twists and turns up until May.
Brentford may be 11th in the table, and while they ground out a goalless draw in their last outing away to Brighton, their home form is impressive.
At the Gtech Community Stadium, the Bees have picked up 22 points, winning on seven occasions with only Liverpool matching that tally.
This game could be an intriguing encounter to herald the start of a new year, but how will things unfold? I’ve dived into the betting markets and sourced a couple of tips to back up my Brentford v Arsenal predictions.
Arsenal to enjoy another shut-out
It may not have been the most vintage display from Arsenal against Ipswich, but the credentials of potential champions is finding a way to get over the line no matter what.
The Gunners went into that game unbeaten in their last 41 Premier League home games against promoted sides (W36 D5) including wins in each of their previous 12.
More pertinently, no team has conceded fewer goals than Arsenal this term (16), so Brentford will need to show some tactical nous to breach the visitors.
Then again, Brentford’s home games this term have contained 42 goals, representing the most in the Premier League.
That would suggest that we could be in for a rip-roaring game. Arsenal have won on both of their previous two league visits to West London by an aggregate of 4-0.
This leads me nicely into my first pick. To begin my Brentford v Arsenal predictions, I’m going for Arsenal to win to nil, and Betfred has obliged with a tasty 8/5 price.
Gabriel to lay the foundations for an Arsenal win
With over 20 goals scored from corners in the league this term, it wouldn’t be an understatement to suggest this is Arsenal’s core strength.
Gabriel, in particular, has been central to their success, with all three of his league goals scored with headers from corners.
He probably ought to have made it four, but he fluffed a very presentable chance from a corner against Ipswich.
The Brazilian’s aerial presence is clear for all to see, and I expect the Gunners to pick up plenty of corners during the 90 minutes.
I feel like Gabriel will get his head on at least one of them. To wrap up my Brentford v Arsenal predictions, I’m going with the centre-back to open the scoring for the Gunners, and I’m drawn to the 11/1 price by William Hill for that special.
