Arsenal v Brighton Match Preview

By the time this game comes around, the transfer window will be locked and slammed shut for another few months and although Arsenal have not gone wild in the aisles, their additions look set to set them up for another title tilt.

A tilt that already looks like it is going to be closer to a full charge and with the way both Arsenal and Manchester City have taken to the field in the opening two weeks of the season, already every game seems like it has taken on must win status.

Neither the defending champion or the nearest challenger wants to blink first, whoever drops points before the other will cede an early advantage to their arch rivals and a points deficit is not what either wants before the first international break of the new campaign.

To make sure Arsenal make it three wins from three, they will need to get the better of a Brighton side that are flying just as high since the table was reset at the start of August. To make sure they get the better of Brighton, the Gunners will have to be firing on all cylinders.

If their recent win over Wolves was nothing more than a tune up contest, then their subsequent win over Aston Villa saw the Arsenal engine put through its paces. Second half goals from Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey finally putting the visitors up through the gears.

However, it could have been a game where Arsenal were put in reverse and had Ollie Watkins not fluffed his lines when put through on goal in the first half, it could have been far different story that was penned by the West Midlands outfit.

While Brighton’s winning story extended to a second chapter last Saturday after getting the better of Manchester United. The Seagulls swooped in the dying seconds thanks to Joao Pedro seemingly being given the freedom of East Sussex.

There may have been nine Manchester United players behind the ball but unfortunately for manager Erik ten Hag, five of those decided to stand in the same vicinity – a decision that allowed the former Watford forward the opportunity to nod home Brighton’s winner.

Not only is it two wins for two in the Premier League for Fabian Hurzeler, but he has also managed to navigate past Crawley in the Carabao Cup. A resounding 4-0 win at The Amex, continues the feelgood factor but new signing Matt O’Riley will not be feeling good after a debut injury.

But now it is time for the first of my two tips and with Arsenal yet to concede in this season’s Premier League, I think the first 45 mins are going to be a cagey affair. Therefore, I am going to back the 0-0 when the two teams return to the dressing room at 11/4.

In addition to this, I am going to throw the seagulls amongst the pigeons. Level at the break but I am backing Brighton to go on to win the game in a second half flurry of attacking activity. The away win and both teams to score is priced at 11/1.
