And not only that. The 17-year-old also bagged a nine-dart finish en route to the major title, sending the London crowd wild.

So it’s no surprise he comes into this one as a 9/4 joint-favourite with Luke Humphries, as he has been swatting aside most of those he has come up against over the last couple of months.

Littler seems to thrive on the big occasion and a debut inside Madison Square Gardens isn’t going to phase Littler in the slightest.

He opens up against Canadian Matt Campbell, and is likely to face former world number one Michael Smith in the quarter-finals.

Despite just missing out on the Premier League title, Luke Humphries remains the world number one and the man to beat on the oche.

Humphries has now reached the final at a minimum in five of the big seven ranking tournaments, and his game doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon.

His domination over certain players (including a seven-match winning streak over Michael van Gerwen) is a good illustration of how consistent he has become in the big matches, and 9/4 says he can add his name to the US Darts Masters roll of honour.

He’s in the trickier half of the draw with Nathan Aspinall, Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen in his way.

Despite being down at 9/2, you can’t ever write off Michael van Gerwen.

The Dutchman hasn’t been at his best over the past month or two, but with two US Darts Masters under his belt, his muscle memory may kick in now he can say goodbye to a blotchy Premier League campaign.

He’ll have to end his seven-match losing streak against Humphries however, and could meet the world number one in the semi-finals on Saturday.
