There’s some big money on the line in Riyadh this week, as the stars of the World Snooker Tour head to Saudi Arabia for the inaugural Saudi Arabian Masters.
This new ranking tournament has a prize pot of over £2.3 million on offer, meaning a stacked filed of cue-ists will be licking their lips heading east for the tournament’s start on Friday 30th August.
But you won’t see some of the biggest stars until next week...
The top 16 ranked players get a bye into the fifth round, starting on September 3rd, meaning there is a festival of action until that point with 17 local wildcards getting a stab at glory and a chance to make a name for themselves in the early rounds.
144 players will battle it out for the first edition of the Saudi Arabian Masters, an event that will become a staple on the snooker calender over the next decade.

2024 Saudi Arabian Masters – The Favourites
We highlight three players that hold an excellent chance of landing the 2024 Saudi Arabian Masters
Ronnie O’Sullivan - 3/1
If there is a big pot of money on offer, then you can be sure that the “Rocket” will turn up to try and grab it.
Despite falling at the semi-final stages last week in Xi’an, O’Sullivan still showed some glimpses of the stuff that saw him so many titles last season on tour.
He’s the joint 3/1 FAV coming into Riyadh and will receive a bulk of the support from the Saudi Arabian fans who, like the rest of the world, adore the seven-time world champion.
He’ll probably have to beat two of Zhang Anda, Tom Ford and Luca Brecel in order to reach back-to-back semi-finals, opening the door for another repeat clash with the reigning world champion Kyren Wilson.
Judd Trump - 3/1
Judd Trump was 8-7 up on Kyren Wilson in a race to 10 at last week’s Xi’an Grand Prix, but found himself on the wrong end of a rampage from the world champion as he scooped the title 10-8.
Trump won’t be disheartened by this outing; he has continued to reach the latter stages of tournaments already this season after a 2023-24 season that saw him take home no less than five ranking titles.
Trump is now the No. 1 player in the world and he is playing like it.
He finds himself in the third quarter of the draw and will most likely have to get past Mark Selby and Mark Allen if he is to reach yet another final.
Kyren Wilson - 10/1
After winning his maiden World Championship earlier this year, Kyren Wilson would be forgiven for going into hiding for a bit.
The 32-year-old fell early in the Shanghai Masters, but has gotten straight back onto the horse to win the seventh ranking title of his career in Xi’an, beating Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump en route without having to play either in a final-frame decider.
Wilson has to be considered in Riyadh simply on form – how often have we seen players reel off two or three titles in a row thanks to a purple patch?
10/1 is a big price for the world champion who will be entering at the 5th Round stage.
2024 Saudi Arabian Masters – Best Tips

Winning Quarter – 3rd Quarter
Mark Selby and Judd Trump both contest the third quarter, so with two of the four betting favourites involved, it’s hard not to edge towards this section to come up Trumps in Riyadh.
Some surprised from this quarter could also include Neil Robertson or Jack Lisowski, both who enter in the third round and have lofty expectations for the season ahead.
Nationality of winner – English
On the face of it, this market looks a lot like Mark Allen vs the field…
The Northern Irishman is the only non-Englishman in the top six in the betting, meaning that a Trump, O’Sullivan, Wilson, Selby or Murphy win would bring home this short 1/2 price.
That’s an awful lot of experience and ranking titles wrapped up into five chances of winning the big one in Riyadh.
Kyren Wilson to win the 2024 Saudi Arabian Masters
We’ve already spoken about the form and credentials of Kyren Wilson this season, but it’s worth underlining his price at 10/1 to scoop the Saudi Arabian Masters.
Wilson claims he went “off the rails” after his world title win but now he’s back playing some good snooker on the baize, and with that weight of winning the “biggun” now off his shoulders it may allow him to play with even more freedom.
He’s still young enough to aim towards a dominant period on the sport where he picks up title after title, and as he heads to Riyadh that is exactly what the “Warrior” will be aiming to do.
