People all over the UK will place a bet on Saturday’s Grand National, hoping to land the winner.
Many punters pick their horse based on the name, silks, or form, but it can also pay to take a closer look at historical race stats that winners of previous Grand Nationals have all shared.
Below, we’ve featured five key Grand National stats and also highlighted a horse that fits all of them for this year’s race at Aintree.
Top Grand National Stats
- In the 2023 Grand National, 11 of the first 13 to finish carried 11st or less.
- Twelve of the last 14 Grand National winners were making their debut in the race.
- Nine of the last 10 Grand National winners were rated between 146 and 160 by the BHA Handicapper.
- Every Grand National winner since 2013 had at least three runs for the season, while eight of those won on at least one occasion that term.
- Eight of the last 16 winners had competed at the Cheltenham Festival the time before, including six of the previous nine.
Who Fits the Stats?
The Willie Mullins-trained MEETINGOFTHEWATERS has been well-supported this week, and he fits all five of the above stats.
He will carry 10st 8lbs on Saturday and makes his debut in the race from a handicap rating of 147.
He’s had six runs this season, including wins at Cork and Leopardstown, and was last seen placing third in the Ultima Handicap at the Cheltenham Festival.
Sporting the famous JP McManus green and gold silks, Meetingofthewaters looks a solid bet to give Willie Mullins just his second-ever Grand National winner.
